Meet Mia
Once I started writing for nonprofits I found my place, and mission aligned writing has become my passion.
Core Values
CREATIVITY
All projects are approached with fresh eyes, new ideas, and the exploration of possibilities. In addition to the technical skills needed, I infuse outside-of-the-box thinking and translate that into creative ways to describe the heart and soul of your work.
Authenticity
I understand the passion, dedication and nuances of nonprofit organizations and their heart for the mission, and I value their authenticity in a for-profit world. Honesty, transparency and humor are the consistent drum beat of my work and my thoughts, words, and actions are aligned to them.
Communication
I believe that most successful partnerships come down to effective communication, listening to learn, and understanding of other’s perspectives. I value learning to communicate effectively across different personalities and styles.
About Me
My first job in nonprofits was as an executive assistant to the CEO and board of a youth-based nonprofit, where I gained invaluable insights into organizational dynamics and sector operations. This led me to discover a natural space to apply my degree in English (B.A., Binghamton University) and contribute my skills as a writer. I then spent the next years developing a wide range of fundraising and development skills at both Mind Springs Health, a western Colorado regional mental health center, and SOS Outreach, an organization dedicated to positive youth development through mentoring. After starting out as a grant writer, I became SOS’s Manager of Foundation Giving, growing grant revenue by 300%. As a leader at SOS, I gained invaluable experience with all facets of development, and honed my expertise in marketing writing. I also have collaborated with a grant consultancy, further diversifying my project management expertise.
A native New Yorker, I am now based in Colorado and work with clients throughout the country. When I am not working with nonprofits, you can find me reading, mushroom hunting, or hiking in the beautiful Rocky Mountains with my husband and 2 dogs Gwen and Roman.
